Purdy Nature Preserve.
Nature-based programming & classes include hosting school field trips, preschool programs (ages 2-5), summer day camps, special events, and scout groups.
Teachers will also assist with caretaking duties for various program animals in the Nature Study Classroom, outdoor seasonal projects on the preserve and YMCA grounds.
The Apple Creek YMCA has two (3) positions open for Environmental Education Instructors, including Summer/Seasonal.
Schedule & hours can vary between the three positions.
Summer/Seasonal Schedule:
Typical hours are 11:
30am to 3:
30pm, Monday through Thursday.
Additional hours are available.
Position One Schedule:
Classes are held as follows (preference given for candidates who are available for more than one class):
Mondays 9:
00-11:
30 AM, Tuesday 8:
30-11:
00 AM, Wednesdays 12:
30-3:
00 PM.
3-6 hours per week total, with extra hours available when field trips are scheduled.
Position Two Schedule:
Weekdays; Flexible schedule between the hours of 8:
30 AM - 3:
30 PM; 12-16 hours/week, varies by day.
Minimum of 2 years of coursework (or equivalent work experience) in Natural Resources, Environmental Education, Environmental Studies, or related fields.
Instructors should be well skilled in northern Wisconsin ecology/natural systems with solid knowledge of native and introduced plant and animal species.
Previous experience working with children ages 2-12 is highly recommended.
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to present to audiences of various ages and sizes are necessary for this position.
