Overview:
The Food to Grow Museum Educator's primary activities with the Building for Kids will consist of the development and facilitation of programming to go along with the museum's newest exhibit, Food to Grow.
The Food to Grow exhibit will create an immersive learning environment for children and their grownups to explore and develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to food choice, food sourcing, and food preparation.
Through this work, children and their grown-ups will gain an understanding of where food comes from and the different ways to secure nutritious foods.
Food choice, preparation, and consumption will be explored as a cross-cultural, cross- generational, shared experience.
Through corresponding programming, children and their grownups will gain skills in identifying a variety of nutritionally valuable foods and confidence in preparing them.
The Food to Grow exhibit and programming space will serve as a platform to scale these types of community-based interventions that support families consuming a greater variety of nutritionally valuable foods.
This position is in partnership with the Be Well Fox Valley AmeriCorps Program.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Program development will include:
Food Exploration:
Exposing kids and their grown-ups to new and different foods, with a particular focus on nutritionally valuable foods.
This might look like offering samples of different foods sourced from the local farmers market.
Partnerships with Cultural Groups:
Building authentic relationships with members of our community who represent and can speak to different cultures' food traditions.
Food Prep Demonstrations:
Using different preparation techniques to show how to make foods fun and interesting.
For example, demonstrating different ways of preparing carrots - cut into sticks, shredded, or crinkle cut.
Facilitate programming to museum visitors Train the museum's education team in the programs Document their process so the museum can sustain and grow the programs Responsibilities & Expectations related to the Food to Grow Exhibit:
Advance the museum's reputation as a safe and healthy space, where all are welcome, and programming is inclusive and accessible to all Facilitate educational programming, including classes for school and childcare groups, family-group activities, drop-off camps, and off-site engagement activities (primarily within Food to Grow) Support the coordination and facilitation of events hosted by the museum Engage volunteers in programming activities Participate in ongoing personal development, education opportunities, and staff trainings AmeriCorps-components (in addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above):
Attend and participate in program trainings on a variety of topics, including program orientation all-member team training and networking opportunities, Public Health AmeriCorps CDC Train virtual training series, community service projects, etc.
These trainings occur through a combination virtual and in-person.
Complete AmeriCorps paperwork, such as monthly reports, feedback surveys, etc.
Community outreach around health and wellness topics and objectives Deliver community based programing around health and wellness topics and objectives QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EDUCATION/
Experience:
Experience in or knowledge of program development, early childhood development, special education, or human services Energetic and engaging presence Experience working with children in an educational setting Experience engaging with diverse groups of people, including different ages and abilities Comfortable speaking in front of groups of people Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment Ability to adapt and adjust to environmental changes and to the needs of the people being served Exceptional communication skills Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills Basic computer skills, with preference to knowledge of Microsoft applications Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings Be 18 years or older at the beginning of their service Hold a high school diploma or equivalent U.
S Citizen, U.
S National, or Lawful permanent resident alien of the U.
S WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work attire is casual with a shirt provided to the member.
The member must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds.

OTHER INFORMATION:
Member Term of Service:
The Member's service term will start on 9/1/2023 and end on 8/31/2024.
There's flexibility with the position start date, however the position must start within the time period of 9/1/23 -10/23/23.
Time Requirements:
The member is expected to serve 1,700 hours, which averages 35-40 hours/week during the service term period.
Members will receive a gross living allowance while serving, which is paid on the 15th and last day of each month.
The gross living allowance amount will be $958.
33 per pay period (the amount listed is before tax deductions).
Please note, there will not be an additional hourly wage or salary.
Segal Education Award upon successful completion of hourly requirement described in Time Requirements:
The Education Award amount for this position is $6,895.

Members will not receive the education award via direct payment (such as check, cash, etc.

Member positions that average 35-40 hours/week are eligible for health insurance and childcare reimbursement (income eligibility required for childcare reimbursement benefit) Forbearance on qualified student loans while serving and interest accrual payments.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
